When you look at the two positions super-imposed you can see the major difference is in the position of the arms. One more vertical than the other. The non-vertical position of the arms places an acute angle at the shoulders--not a good place, weak and dangerous on the joint. |
So the obvious position of preference is the one on the left, where the arms are more directly under the shoulders. |
Because you want to start "at ease" in order to be eccentric, adjustments to the apparatus could be to lower the bar, or go to a different gear on the spring bar setting where the carriage starts "at ease" further from the footbar. |
You do not want acute angles at joints under load. |
